Exfoliation = fresh, young, healthy skin
Dull, dry, and
gray skin. Layers of dead skin cells
sitting on our faces prevent even the most
aggressive moisturizers from truly providing
fresh, young, healthy looking skin.
Our skin cells
live about 21 days. As they mature, they move
from our basal layer of the epidermis to the
surface. These old cells become flat, dull and
unable to hold needed moisture. Unfortunately,
when these cells die, they stick to the surface
of the skin, dulling our complexion.
These dead cells
need to be removed frequently to reveal
the living skin below. Regular use of the Daily
Lift, our signature alpha hydroxy, will release
dull, environmentally damaged skin cells,
reduce the appearance of
fine lines and wrinkles, even your skin
tone, and minimize pore size.
>> Get Daily Lift, Our
Facial Magic Polishing Cloth used in
conjunction with Daily Lift is a potent
combination for creating a smooth, flawless face
under makeup.
These two products deeply
clean your skin and
unclog pores. I recommend a total body
scrub once or twice a week because dead skin
also collects on our torso and your body
moisturizer will work more efficiently when you
regularly slough off the dull, old skin.

Tasmanian Fragrances
Aging Backwards President Jackie Silver is invited
to many events in and around NYC. I accompanied her
to the Park Avenue Symrise introduction of new
scents in mid-January. It was a heady experience of
various smells and aromas that stemmed from an
expedition of three jetting from NYC to Tasmania via
Doha and Melbourne. The three hardy adventurers
brought previously unknown fragrance profiles from
plants, trees and rocks to the US and have now
formulated them, ready to add to detergents,
perfumes, soaps, creams and more. I only wish you
could enjoy the rich Pink Leatherwood and the
Blackwood scents like we did. So delightful!
Here's Jackie Silver's take on
the Symrise expedition.
Healthy Monday - Jackie Silver
Welcome to 2012! Here’s
your first Monday tip of
the new year. Why
Monday? It’s the
“January” of the week,
the perfect time for a
fresh start. People are
more likely to begin
exercising, start a diet
or quit smoking on
Monday than any other
day. It’s a call to
action built into every
calendar – offering 52
chances a year to live a
longer, healthier life!
A Bite in the
Right Direction
Incorporating new habits
into your daily life
takes work, so aim for
progress, not
perfection! Start with
small changes that you
can easily fit into your
daily routine and go a
little further each
week. Swapping a
breakfast Danish for an
organic, free-range egg,
having water instead of
soft drinks, picking
veggies as a side dish
or trying fruit for
dessert are all doable
actions that will lead
to long term results.
Look at your usual
eating habits and commit
to one “swap out” this
week. Make sure your new
habit is something that
you can integrate
seamlessly into your
routine. Use your New
Year’s momentum to
consider other
situations where you
could easily make a
change.

Pumpkin Facial Mask
Antonia Sorin
ehow.com
If
you're looking for a way to use leftover pumpkin and
you don't want to make a pie, there's an option you
may not have considered--making a pumpkin facial
mask. Varieties of the recipe are available for
regular, oily or dry skin, all depending on the
secondary ingredients that you add to the mask.
Pumpkins are rich in
vitamin
A, C, and zinc, making pumpkin a good choice for
promoting healing and moisture.
Exfoliating Pumpkin Facial Mask Recipe
o
Grind 12 almonds up into a fairly fine powder. Mix
the ground almonds into 1 cup pureed pumpkin, either
cooked fresh pumpkin or canned, 1/4 cup honey and
1/8 tsp. olive oil. To use the mask, spread a thin
layer on the face and allow it to sit for about 5
minutes. Rinse off with water. Seal tightly and
store in the refrigerator.
General
Pumpkin Facial Mask Recipe
o
Mix 2 cups pureed cooked, fresh pumpkin or canned
pumpkin, 4 tbsp. unflavored yogurt, 4 tbsp. honey
and 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice to make the mask.
Spread on the face and allow it to sit for about 10
minutes. Rinse off with water. This
recipe is for a
general facial mask, suitable for most types of
skin. The finished mask has both a good taste and
smells like pumpkin pie. The recipe has a high yield
and leftover mask should be stored in the
refrigerator.
Oily and Dry
Skin Variations
o
These two pumpkin facial mask
recipes start with
the same base of pumpkin, honey and milk, and then
different ingredients are added afterward to make
them either oily or dry skin specific. For the base,
mix 2 tsp. pureed pumpkin, 1/2 tsp. honey and 1/4
tsp. milk. To continue with the oily skin mask
recipe, add 1/4 tsp. apple cider vinegar or 1/4 tsp.
cranberry juice. To make the dry skin formula,
instead add 1/4 tsp. heavy whipping cream or 1/2
tsp. brown sugar. Spread the mixture on the face and
leave on for 10 to15 minutes, and then rinse off
with water. Each recipe yields enough for one mask.

Here's
the latest from Thirdage.com - How to Create a
Flawless Complexion:
I f you have been on the search for what makes or breaks makeup, your answer lies in your choice of foundation. This makeup agent helps to smooth out skin tones, conceal blemishes and give you an overall healthy glow. Applying makeup without a foundation as base can actually accentuate unsightly skin problems, rather than trying conceal them. Choosing and applying foundation should be a simple procedure, but there are pitfalls. So heed our advice and flaunt your best skin with the right tips.Start by deciding what type of look you're looking to achieve. Then select a foundation that meets your objective. Foundations usually offer a range of coverage from sheer to heavy and finishes that range from matte to satin. Once you have chosen the ideal formulation (coverage and finish), you're ready to choose the perfect shade for your skin tone. There is a good selection of foundation shades available these days, so choose wisely. If you're unsure on where to start, here's a quick guide:
- Ensure you're in natural daylight when trying out foundation colors, so you can see exactly how your skin will look once you leave the shop.
- Select a couple of shades which look as though they'll match your skin and try it on.
- Don't try foundation on your hand or on your wrist -- they're a different color to your face.
- Stroke a little color onto your jaw line to ensure you get atone that will blend with your neck as well as your face. The shadethat seems to "disappear" into your skin is the right one for you.
Apply foundation 10 minutes after moisturizing. If you don'tallow the moisturizer to absorb into the skin, your foundation couldeasily come off with wear. Also when applying, use a cosmetic sponge --using your fingertips can result in an uneven, greasy finish. Dampenthe sponge first, then squeeze excess moisture to make foundationapplication easier; this also prevents the sponge from soaking up toomuch foundation.
Place a small amount of foundation on the back of one hand, and dip your makeup sponge into it. Dot the formula on your forehead, cheeks, chin and nose, and then blend well using the sponge. Move outward, blending toward hairline and jaw line until it vanishes. Pay special attention to areas around the nose and jaw line. When applying foundation on the jaw line, rub toward the neck area to help create less of a separating line around the face.
Finally, brush on powder to set the foundation. If oil surfaces during the day, blot the area with a tissue, then apply alight dusting of powder. Always apply powder to set makeup and re-apply throughout the day to prevent shine.

HOW TO DRY BRUSH YOUR
BODY
For the past few weeks
I've been dry brushing my arms, legs and torso to
remove dead skin cells. When researching dry
brushing I found many people doing this and believe
this is one of the best sites for information.
You'll want to purchase a small natural bristle
brush - I have one with a long handle just for my
back and then another for the rest of my body. Ebay
is a good source for brushes and
here's a site to help you get
started brushing, too. After
brushing I recommend that you use our
Cell Renewal
Ultra-Moisturizing Hand & Body Lotion to
soothe the tingling in your arms and legs.
FOODS THAT WHITEN
YOUR TEETH
Robin Westen
-
Thirdage.com
We love the look of pearly whites. But constant bleaching isn’t just costly, it can cause mild to severe pain. If you overdo it, the chemical can eat away at your tooth enamel. The good news is that certain fruits and vegetables can help make your teeth sparkle naturally. Check them out and you might be able to skip some bleaching treatments. OPT FOR ORANGES AND PINEAPPLES Increase your mouth’s production of saliva by enjoying juicy citrus fruits. Saliva washes away foods that stain, like coffee, soda and red wine. Bonus: The acid also contains enzymes that kill bacteria that cause tooth decay -- and bad breath.
DO DAIRY Yogurt, milk and hard cheeses like cheddar contain lactic acid, which may help protect teeth against decay. Researchers think proteins in yogurt may bind to teeth and prevent them from attack by harmful acids that cause cavities. Dairy is also loaded with calcium, which guards and strengthens bone that holds teeth in place. Plus, chewing hard cheese creates saliva that helps remove food particles that stain.
GO FOR THE CHEW Crunchy foods and vegetables like cauliflower, apples, celery and carrots work to whiten teeth by acting as abrasives. These foods actually scrub your teeth. Think of them as a natural toothbrush. They also stimulate saliva, which helps keep plaque from forming.
You can also avoid stain-causing foods. Hint: Any food that causes a stubborn laundry stain can discolor teeth, too: Think red wine, tea, coffee, blueberries, and soy sauce. Of course, tobacco is a big offender. If you can’t get to a toothbrush or drink water, chew sugarless gum to remove stain-causing particles.

sensational choices for the season. I've seen gray,
dark blue, dark purple shades that will be an
outstanding asset with tweeds and warm weather gear.

DO YOU HAVE
NINKLES?
By
Hilary Freeman
They say it's your hands that give
away your age, but there's another body part that
might betray your true vintage just as clearly: your
knees.
And these knobbly bits are the latest
area that shape-conscious ladies of a certain age
are getting obsessed about.

Knee wrinkles — or 'ninkles' as
they've been christened by Vogue deputy editor Emily
Sheffield — are something with which many women will
be familiar: the pouchy, saggy skin and deep grooves
that begin to appear on our knees from our mid-30s.
Some of us just see it as a sign that
we should sport our ninkles with pride or ditch the
shorts and invest in longer skirts. But some women
are so bothered by their knees that they claim
they're ruining their lives.
So why are knees so difficult to keep
looking young? According to anti-ageing and hormone
specialist Dr Cecilia Tregear, from London's Wimpole
Skin Clinic, ninkles occur as a result of the loss
of elasticity and collagen in the skin, which is
caused by a combination of factors.
'Poor nutrition, sun damage,
unbalanced or declining hormones — due to stress and
approaching menopause — as well as a diet high in
sugar, all conspire to create
wrinkly knees.'
These young-looking knees
belong to my Ageless Sister Jackie Silver,
founder of
AgingBackwards.com.
They belie her true age – Jackie is in her 50s!
Actual, original photo taken on a Blackberry.
And you don't have to be overweight or out of shape
to get them. Far from it. Some beautiful models and
actresses are afflicted by ninkles: Nicole Kidman,
Elle Macpherson, Jerry Hall and Kate Moss, to name
but a few.
View their photos and it's as if all
the wrinkles you might expect to find on their faces
have somehow collected between their toned thighs
and smooth calves.
'In fact, skinny celebrities who have
spent years restricting their food intake may suffer
from saggy knees particularly badly because their
bodies have been starved of nutrients vital for
the skin, particularly protein and fats,' says Dr
Tregear.
'Over-exercising has also depleted
them of sex hormones necessary for collagen
production.'
Unlike most body parts, which can be
toned or sculpted to perfection in the gym, there's
little you can do about ninkles, other than to cover
them with a maxi skirt.
Demi Moore allegedly had more than
£3,000 of surgery on hers, but Dr Tregear warns that
even if you do go under the knife, but you don't
address the underlying problems, ninkles will return.
Now, she has devised the first
non-surgical treatment that promises to rid women of
their ninkles forever.
It's a targeted prescription
treatment, tailored to the individual needs of each
patient, and combines specially mixed creams
containing bio-identical (natural not synthetic)
hormones and vitamin A, which is clinically proven
to erase wrinkles.
Hilary Philpot, 52, a health and
safety manager from Muswell Hill, North London, has
hated her knees for years, and can't remember the
last time she revealed them in public.
'I've worn
trousers every day since my late 30s,' she says.
'I'm slim, but my knees are lumpy and getting
wrinklier and saggier as I get older. I walk a lot,
but it's made no difference to their appearance.
'Though my partner loves me as I am,
I'm self-conscious about any- one else seeing my
knees, which restricts my wardrobe to long skirts,
dresses or sarongs and makes going to the beach
embarrassing.'
A friend recommended that Hilary go
to see Dr Tregear in her Harley Street surgery. She
was given a series of blood tests and then
prescribed a cream to apply to her knees each
morning and night for a month.
This contained prescription DHEA (a
steroid hormone) to stimulate oil production and
encourage increased skin thickness, bio-identical
estrogen to help stimulate collagen production and
boswellic acid, which also builds collagen, plus
Vitamin A, which erases wrinkles.
In addition,
Hilary was advised to eat less sugar and
more animal protein, plus nuts and avocado
(good fats), and to do some daily leg
exercises to tone the muscles in her legs.
She was
also told to drink two litres of water a day
to help moisturise the skin and counteract
wrinkles.
'The knees
require just as much care as the face, in
terms of moisturising, massage and sun
protection,' says Dr Tregear.
'But women
tend to neglect this area. Good nutrition,
particularly protein, plays an important
role, too, by supplying the nutrients that
help produce oestrogen, testosterone,
cortisol, DHEA and human growth hormone, all
of which have an effect on the tone,
thickness and elasticity of the skin.

two to three months, but within just a couple of

twice a day, something I've never done before, had
some effect.
'After a month, my knees are more
than an inch smaller in circumference and have more
definition. The skin is also much smoother. The
difference is very visible.
'I do feel a lot more confident and
have even worn a dress that falls above my knees for
the first time in years.
'The added bonus is that I also feel
much more energetic.'
A ninkle treatment consultation costs
£200, with creams starting from £50 for a month's
supply.

The Latest Hair Must Have? ROOSTER FEATHERS!
My sister, Suzanne, was telling me
that she wore a thin blue feather in her hair when
she attended our latest family reunion over Memorial
Day. Whaaatttt???? Suzanne's daughters own
RJ's Spa and Salon so she gets to enjoy
the latest and greatest beauty treatments. She told
me that many of my female cousins had a
variety of colors in their hair, too! One cousin had six
turquoise feathers, another had multi-bright feather
extensions and I guess they're quite the rage. I
began to research the internet and found
Featherlocks.
Here's what their website had to say:
A fun, fresh and fast way to add some flair to your
hair,
Featherlocks
feather hair extensions are now available.
Featherlocks
are available in a variety of colors, can be
cut to fit any hair length and can even be washed,
dried, flat ironed and curled. And they are long
lasting too, staying put for up to 8 weeks! Ready to
ruffle some feathers?
Well, I think that sounds like a great summer
addition for my locks and will ask Ivan if he can
add a few to my hair. Would you?
Use Summer's Heat for Beauty -
It's FREE!
By Jackie Silver,
http://www.agingbackwards.com/
Remember a few short months ago when we were
shivering in winter’s chill and paying for heat?
Well, Mother Nature gives us free heat in the
summer months, and we can use that to our advantage.
Exposing yourself to heat makes you sweat and that
has many well-known health benefits. Sweating is
said to increase circulation, cleanse pores, make
muscles more supple and provide pain relief.
But did you know you can use summer’s heat to help
you look and feel more youthful, too?
Here are some Aging Backwards tips to help you take
advantage of what Mother Nature has to offer:
1. Deep condition your hair. When your hair
cuticles become dry and damaged, it can result in a
dull, frizzy look. Deep conditioning your hair
allows the cuticles to lie flat, restoring shine and
youth with longer-lasting results than you get by
simply using conditioner in the shower for a few
minutes.
On a particularly hot day, clip newly washed,
towel-dried hair into sections. Release one section
at a time, applying the conditioner of your choice
to each section to ensure uniform coverage. It
doesn’t have to be exact; you just want to be sure
you’re not leaving out some very dry areas. Next,
pile your hair on top of your head and apply plastic
wrap or a plastic shower cap. (Note: Keep plastic
away from your nose and mouth!) Then sit outside in
the shade for about 15-20 minutes with a good book
or magazine. Rinse out the conditioner and style as
usual.
2. Enjoy a facial mask. Regular cleansing removes
surface dirt and makeup, but a facial mask will draw
out impurities from beneath the top layer of your
skin. Using a mask helps to unclog pores and
exfoliate the dead skin cells from your face. It
also helps to stimulate circulation and, depending
on the product, helps hydrate and protect your skin.
Using the product of your choice, apply the facial
mask and sit outside in the shade on a hot day. If
you’re planning to deep condition your hair, you can
save time by doing your hair and facial mask at the
same time because many masks direct you to wash off
after 15-20 minutes.
Here’s an extra tip: Use some of the mask on the
tops of your hands. They can show your age, too!
Rinse mask according to the product directions and
pat dry.
3. Get your Vitamin D. Our bodies need Vitamin D
for optimal calcium absorption. It’s also been shown
help to lower blood pressure, decrease the incidence
of some cancers, boost the immune system and has
other healthful benefits.
The best way to get Vitamin D is from the sun.
Experts say 10 to 20 minutes a day in direct
sunlight is all you need to keep your levels
optimal.
Here’s a tip: Nowhere in the medical books does it
say I must expose my face, neck, chest and hands,
which are the areas that can show age the most. So I
keep those covered.
4. Exercise in the great outdoors. Winter’s harsh
conditions can force us to get our exercise in the
gym or at home for months on end. With summer comes
the opportunity to enjoy fresh air and warmth while
exercising.
I like to take a walk, do some yoga, or, if I’m
feeling really energetic, take my jump rope outside
for a quick workout.
Be careful when exercising outdoors if it’s super
hot. Do your workout in the morning or evening and
avoid the hottest part of the day. Also, be sure to
keep your water handy to stay hydrated.
5. Take a kids’ exploration walk. With the
everyday hustle and bustle of work, family, friends,
and taking care of the house, we rarely go walking
just to “mosey” and see what there is to see. Stress
relief is conducive to Aging Backwards, so take a
half hour or an hour to just go outside on a
beautiful summer day and explore at ground level.
I did that recently and here’s what I saw: some
gorgeous flowers; big, scaly lizards; a couple of
cats and dogs; kids laughing and splashing in a
pool; a shiny, red convertible, and a kids’ swing
set, which I took the liberty of trying out.
So, take time out this summer to enjoy the warmth
and slower pace of the season.
Drink Yourself Beautiful with
Lemon Water
BY: Jessie Zalla
When life gives you lemons, make
lemonade … literally. Drinking water with
fresh-squeezed lemons helps you to stay healthy,
fight signs of aging and stoke your metabolism.
Here’s the skinny: The beauty of
lemon water is that it’s tasty, refreshing and best
of all, alkalizing. Many of the foods we crave --
coffee, carbohydrates, meats and sugar -- are
acidic. And that can have an adverse effect on our
body, giving us wrinkles, illness and fatigue.
Powerful properties in lemons can relieve the
symptoms of poor digestion, including bloating.
Vitamin C combats the effects of free radical
damage, like fine lines, wrinkles and uneven
texture. Lemons are also high in potassium, which
can combat headaches and bloating.
How to make this magic drink: Squeeze
the juice of two lemons -- the heavier the better --
into a glass of room-temperature water. Sip every
morning and afternoon. Skip the sugar -- it'll only
cancel out all those amazing health benefits.
Super Curly Eyelashes
Ever
notice that your eyelashes look too straight without
curl? Well, for those of you using eyelash
curlers and need an extra boost with curl, don't
forget that your hair dryer can easily heat your
eyelash curler. To insure that your lashes respond
and do not wilt under the wet heaviness of mascara,
just give the curler a 10 second blast of heat.
Please be aware that metal can become too hot very
quickly and you might burn
yourself so pay attention.
Years ago
I was introduced to
Hot Lashes and the
results this device produced was nothing short of
amazing. Hot Lashes was voted top #1 heated eyelash
curler and it is the favorite of makeup artists
everywhere. It's considered the Rolls Royce of
eyelash curlers.
And, my
optometrist gave me a tip that I want to share with
you: When you're in the shower, washing your
hair, gently scrub your eyelashes with cleansing gel
to remove junk and encourage growth. You'll be
delighted with the results in just a few days as
your eyelashes will become thicker.
A Super Beauty Food
Enjoy tomatoes! They are a powerful
antioxidant that help neutralize the harmful effects
of free radicals that have been implicated in
cancer, heart disease, the benefits are strongest
against prostate, lung and stomach cancers!
Lycopene from tomato skins is
being researched and seems to be providing
protection on the skin from the UV rays of the sun.
Participants in a study given 4 ounces of tomato
sauce took 40% longer for exposure to sun to cause
reddening of the skin than those in the study who
were not given tomato sauce before the same sun
exposure.
Highest concentration of the
photonutrient and antioxidant lycopene is in the
skin of the tomato, the darker the skin the higher
the lycopene. Protective properties of the skin of
the tomato are ready for our consumption in the
months when the sun is the hottest.
It almost seems like the
fruits and vegetables are here to protect us when
the sun is high the tomato is readily available to
consume and gain the benefits of lycopene. The
greatest concentration of lycopene is in the skin,
tomatoes have B1, 2, 3 and 6 along with iron,
magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, and of
course lycopene.
Use fresh tomatoes, basil,
garlic and sea salt to make a raw tomato sauce blend
them together and consume. Adding sundried tomatoes
makes a thicker sauce and adding fresh onions and
peppers you turn it into gazpacho soup.

Would You Shave Your Face?

Celebrity aesthetician Kate Somerville's
revealed both Marilyn Monroe and
Elizabeth Taylor would shave their face to
exfoliate.
According to
Style.com:
"On good authority (that being Elizabeth Taylor’s
personal cosmetic dermatologist, whom Somerville
used to assist), the greats (those being Elizabeth
Taylor and Marilyn Monroe) shaved their faces for
completely bare skin and an added dose of
exfoliation."
Somerville says hair growing back dark is nothing
but a myth. From

How to Get Really Shiny Hair
When I was in Denver recently one of my very best
girlfriends told me she admired my shiny hair so
much that she had opted for a special
cellophane treatment hoping that her highlighted
locks would be as shiny as my mine; they weren't.
Personally I use
Bumble and Bumble
products and my hair is in sensational shape. I
decided to look at what famous stylists recommend
and here's what I found from Frédéric
Fekkai and
Allure.com:
Gleaming
hair is a sign of youth and
vitality, so I cringe when I see
a woman with lackluster hair—it
ages her. Pollution, harsh
chemicals, and heat styling can
all turn hair dull, but a few
extra steps will ensure your
head shines.
•
Start in the shower.
Look for shine-enhancing shampoo
and conditioner with ingredients
like olive oil, jojoba, and rice
proteins. Alternate these with
your regular formulas to prevent
buildup. Be wary of clarifying
shampoos; they can deprive hair
of much-needed moisture and even
strip the dye off color-treated
hair. After you shampoo, apply a
conditioner evenly through the
ends and rinse thoroughly. If
your hair is color-treated, use
a hair mask weekly to replenish
moisture.
•
Prep work. After
towel-drying, apply either a
glossing cream or shine serum
with high levels of panthenol (provitamin
B5). Glossing creams are lighter
and have less silicone, so
they're more appropriate for
women with fine to medium hair.
Use a shine serum if you have
frizzy or coarse hair or unruly
curls. (Avoid saltwater sprays;
they tend to leave a matte
finish.) Massage a quarter-size
dollop of the product evenly
through your hair.
•
Dry the right way.
Place a round, natural-bristle
brush under a three-inch section
of hair. Start at the roots, and
hold the dryer so the nozzle
aims downward—never up against
the shaft. Slide the brush down
without twisting it, to seal the
cuticle.
•
Add a spritz. While
your hair is still warm from the
dryer, flip it upside down and
mist the ends with a shine
spray. This ensures you won't
get too much product near the
roots. If you need a touch-up
during the day, spritz some
shine spray on your hands and
run them lightly through your
hair. Again, you don't want to
overdo it.

Jackie Silver's Holiday Survival
Tips
The following tips can
help you rejoice this holiday season without running
out of steam:
1. Get a good
night’s sleep –
Few of us get all the sleep we need in today’s busy
world, according to Dr. David Posen, author of
The Little Book of Stress Relief.
To restore and
regenerate your mind and body, you actually need
between eight and nine hours of sleep every night.
Children need 10 to 12 hours and teens need nine to
10 hours.
Here’s another
little-known sleeping fact: Don’t use your cell
phone at all in the hour before you go to sleep.
It’s been found that radiation from handsets can
cause insomnia, headaches and confusion, according
to research funded by the Mobile Manufacturers
Forum.
2. Make time to
exercise – A
simple walk is better than a nap if you need an
energy boost. In fact, engaging in regular exercise
actually increases your energy levels over the long
run.
"We live in a society
where people are always looking for the next sports
drink, energy bar, or cup of coffee that will give
them the extra edge to get through the day," says
researcher Tim Puetz, PhD, of the University of
Georgia exercise psychology laboratory.
Dr. Puetz points out
that lacing up your tennis shoes and getting some
daily physical activity does a good job of giving
you the energy boost you want.
3. Enjoy a cup of
coffee – Go
ahead! You’ll get more than an energy boost. Coffee
actually provides a brain boost, as well.
According to a study by
Dr. Mia Kivipelto, associate professor of neurology
at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm,
middle-aged men and women who drank three to five
cups of coffee a day were 65 percent less
likely to develop dementia than those who drank two
cups or less.
This means, unless your
doctor’s restricted your coffee intake, you can feel
good about enjoying your morning cup o’ Joe.
If you have a hectic
schedule this holiday season, try these tips for
celebrating at your energetic best.

Hot Cranberry
Punch – by Reba Nichols, Oklahoma
There is
nothing more beautiful or tasty than this punch at
Holiday Parties!
12 whole cloves; 4 sticks
cinnamon bark -- Seep in 1 pint water for 15
minutes, then pour into container.
1 package raw cranberries --
Cook in 1.5 quarts of H2O then sieve
cranberries, adding liquid to container.

1
small can frozen orange juice*
1
small can frozen pineapple juice*
*Dilute each according to
directions on can or substitute 24 ounces of fresh
or canned juice.
2 lemons – juiced
1 pint grape juice
2 cups of sugar
(for more tart juice, reduce to 1 œ cups or to
taste.)
Heat to serve. Also good cold.
FYI: This
punch can be stored in refrigerator for weeks.
For diabetics or to avoid
sugar, substitute Stevia as directed on the package.
BEAUTY FINDS
The International Congress of Esthetics and Spa
held a small but revealing convention in Long Beach,
CA last week so I got to walk the show and
observe the most popular booths.
OPI had scads
of buyers snatching up not only the gray and silver
metallic for the Holiday Season but the Goth and the
Burlesque (think Cher's new movie!) Collections were
also very popular. Here is a look at four vampy Goth
nail lacquers that you can certainly wear on your
toes practically year round. Personally, I like
these dark colors on my fingers, too.
I also found the
Zoya Minicure Color
Lock System. This is a five step system to prep
the nails with a remover, basecoat, color, top coat
with a UV block and a finish coat that just sets the
entire manicure so perfectly. The Zoya lacquer is
Toluene, Formaldehyde & Dibutyl Phthalate free. The
nail color in my system is Karina Red; it has a tiny
shimmer to it and I'll definitely wear it throughout
the holiday season because it looks like the perfect
shade to wear for every celebration.
Miracle Lips is
another interesting find. The advertising
states that this is "the ultimate skin and lip
salve" that soothes and protects lips that have cold
sores, fever blisters, chapped or dry. The
ingredients are organic and natural. Miracle Lips
contains Brazilian bee propolis crystals and
Melaluka Tea Tree Oil, two highly active and
powerful ingredients for cold sore sufferers. When
Miracle Lips is used on a regular basis it can have
a dramatic decrease in the amount of breakouts. When
Miracle Lips is applied directly on a cold sore the
deep cellular penetration of the natural antiviral,
antibacterial and antifungal properties of propolis
crystals and tea tree oil can stop a cold sore from
spreading and allow it to heal more rapidly. Miracle
Lips stops the virus that causes infection in
healthy cells. It helps to create an environment
that inhibits cold sore proliferation. I think it's
a very fine product!

What Does Your
Nail Polish Say About You?
by Jackie Silver, The Ageless Sisters and AgingBackwards.com
French manicures or clear polish are always appropriate for weddings
or when you need a toned-down look, but these days colors are hot
and the brighter the better. With so many colors from which to
choose it's easy to make a splash with fingers and toes.
Wearing brights like corals and pinks are playful and pretty during
the warmer months, while very deep shades of wine to almost black
look powerful and bold in the cooler months. Making a statement with
your polish choice can make you feel and look younger, but before
you apply that polish, check the color of your nail beds. Normally,
nail beds are peachy-pink because of a healthy supply of blood into
the fingers and toes. When a diet deficiency or disease is present,
sometimes the nail beds become discolored or even misshapen. Bluish
nails could indicate a lack of oxygen in the blood. Greenish nails
could denote infection in the nail bed or other part of the body.
Check with your doctor if your nail beds - free of polish - are any
color other than peachy-pink.
So, what does your color choice say about your personality? There's
a color test you can take online, The Lüscher-Color-Diagnostic (http://www.colourtest.ue-foundation.org/),
which measures a person's psycho-physical state, his or her ability
to withstand stress, to perform and to communicate. Using 5,015
precise definitions, the selections from among these pre-determined
test colors measure the state of 34 personality traits, some of
which we are not even aware of ourselves. The test is created in
such a way as to reveal how you really are, not how you perceive
yourself or how others perceive you.
Whatever your personality, you can achieve your favorite color by
layering sheer polish using the new butter London (http://www.butterlondon.com/)
Jelly Collection. With each coat, the shade gets a little darker,
yet still looks sheer and elegant so it's perfect for the summer.
Think of nail polish as a fashion accessory that completes the
overall look of your outfit.

Eat Cherries
for Better Beauty Sleep
Tart cherries, especially the
Montmorency variety,
contain a substantial amount of melatonin, which we already know
helps to moderate the sleep cycle. Our bodies make their own
melatonin, but sometimes it's not enough, and the cherries could
help
to boost dwindling levels.
Melatonin isn't just involved in the sleep cycle -- it's also a
powerful antioxidant that helps fight inflammation that causes achy
joints and muscle pain. Cherries contain major synergistic
antioxidants, including quercetin and anthocyanins that may help
maintain cardiovascular health.
Cherries without sugar
are not especially delicious so you might want to add a sprinkle of
Stevia or opt for a capsule that packs the age-busting properties.
"Eating cherries with high melatonin
concentrations will increase the antioxidant capacity in the body,"
says
Dr.
Russel Reiter,
Ph.D.,
whose recent research at the
University of Texas quantified the availability and activity of
melatonin found in cherries.
I take a tiny bite
of a 2.5 mg. Melatonin tablet just before bedtime and it quickly
dissolves under my tongue. Jackie Silver, my Ageless Sister, met
Dr. Rubin Naiman, PhD, a noted
sleep doctor, who understands how critical a good night sleep is to
our general well being when she was a guest at Rancho La Puerta.
Coconut Milk
and other Beauty Treats from Across the Globe
Noreen
Young, a makeup artist and sought after speaker, says
that if you place 14 ounces of unsweetened coconut milk in a
bowl, refrigerate it overnight, apply it to your hair and leave it
for 20 minutes, then shampoo and rinse, you will find that your hair
will not only be conditioned but stronger and shinier.
Argan oil,
treasured in Morocco for its emollient, non-greasy properties, may
be great for skin but it does have a little drawback...it contains a
lot of oleic acid which is highly comedogenic. So while it may be
good for oily skin and psoriasis, it could clog pores and cause
inflammatory acne.
Italian's enjoy
drinking goat's milk and they also like to bathe in it for
its skin softening benefits.
Thai women adore
coconut milk and use it in their cooking, drinks and as an
ingredient for lush, exotic desserts. They also love it in warm
baths and on their hair.
Olive oil
for lashes? Olive oil is not only for the Mediterranean diet
but Greek women use it as a natural moisturizer and on their lashes
to aid in their growth.
Polish women
start their day with a cup of hot water infused with a teaspoon of
fresh lemon juice to detoxify.
How
Disgustingly Dirty is Your Makeup???
Makeup sponges, brushes, mascara and even
foundation can easily be tainted with bacteria that lives on our
fingertips. Diane Ranger, creator of
ColoreScience Mineral Makeup
encourages users to clean brushes and sponges frequently and I
agree, especially after reading and watching ABC's segment on
department store testers. EWWWWWW! Nasty things live in those
testers because a lot of people do not voluntarily use the
disposable applicators when trying out the products so contamination
is prevalent. Watch the following video and remember to be
very aware the next time you're tempted to try those enticing colors
at your favorite cosmetic counter.
HOW DIRTY IS YOUR MAKEUP?
FOUR HABITS CAN AGE YOU 12 YEARS!
1)
Smoking tobacco 2) Drinking more than two alcoholic beverages a day

BEAUTY ON A BUDGET by Jackie Silver, author Aging Backwards:
Secrets to Staying Young.
With
today's belt-tightening many people are thinking about where they
can afford to cut corners and save a few dollars. There are plenty
of inexpensive but effective alternatives to everyday essentials
that replace the need to splurge on big-ticket beauty items. Here
are just a few:
Can't
afford a pricey spa? No problem - bring the spa to you. Sequestering
yourself in the bathroom for an hour or two of pampering can go a
long way toward rejuvenating the spirit. Start by setting the mood
with a few smokeless, battery-operated candles and soft, relaxing
music. Then apply a nice mask to your face while you soak your cares
away in a soothing bath. Ask your healthcare professional about
Natural Calm Bath from Peter Gillham's Natural Vitality (http://www.petergillham.com).
"With Natural Calm Bath you are getting the advantages of a mineral
salt bath with Real Salt and of Natural Calm, the best-selling
magnesium supplement in the natural products marketplace," says Ken
Whitman, Peter Gillham's president.
Can't
afford a pricey gym membership? No problem - bring the gym home.
There are plenty of exercise programs that can be done right in
front of the TV, most notably the new workouts that are springing up
for Nintendo Wii. The Wii itself can be pricey, but compared to
years of paying for a gym membership and the gas and time to drive
to the gym, it looks downright economical. If you're a cable or
fiber optic customer, check the on-demand section of your system for
a variety of free workouts for every activity level, from hard-core
aerobics to yoga, pilates and even Bollywood dancing.
Can't
afford a pricey salon hair-coloring? No problem - plenty of
do-it-yourself products make it easier to touch up roots, create
highlights or change hair color completely so you can make fewer
trips to the salon. Just check the shelves at your local pharmacy or
big-box store and you're sure to find racks and racks of brands and
color choices. Roots can be touched up in a matter of minutes with
one of the many new products available, while over-all color and
highlights may take a bit longer. I find that for "bigger" jobs,
such as at-home highlights, inviting a friend over to help goes a
long way toward achieving a more professional result.

how life affects your skin
in this
Webmd slideshow - Just click on the highlighted link and watch
how you can protect your skin, eat foods that nourish and benefit
aging skin along with other helpful hints. Just remember that
in order to have glowing, vibrant skin, it's the little steps you do
everyday - the smidgens - as
Rancho La Puerta Spa
owner, 87 year old Debra Szekely, says…”the cumulative effect of
smidgens: pollution, radiation, excess calories…it's the little
smidgens that you do everyday that attributes to good health."
Omega 3
- A Beauty Treatment? You bet! Dr. Al Sears -
from his newsletter -
www.alsearsmd.com provided the following guidelines to
easily add Omega-3 into our eating plans. These heart healthy foods
just might keep you living younger longer.
Step 1: Eat fresh fish three or four times a week.
I recommend coldwater, high-fat variety fish like:
·
Albacore tuna
·
Mackerel
·
Salmon
·
Sardines
·
Lake trout
·
Swordfish
·
Herring
Step 2: Eat more raw nuts and seeds.
For many years, nuts have gotten a bad rap for being high in fat.
But in reality, nuts are a great source of Omega-3 and other
life-enhancing nutrients. Here are some of my favorites:
·
Flaxseeds and flaxseed oil
·
Soybeans and soybean oil
·
Walnuts
·
Brazil nuts
·
Almonds
·
Hemp seeds
·
Pumpkin seeds
Step 3: Take 3 to 5 grams of Omega-3 fish oil a day.
I recommend my formulation of Peruvian fish oil that packs
two to three times
the Omega-3s you find in leading brands, and five times more
Omega-3s than a can of tuna – without the mercury. These oils can
help you:
·
Strengthen your heart and blood vessels
·
Maintain blood pressure levels that are already within the normal
range
·
Help support joint and muscle health
·
Keep your triglycerides (blood fat) in the safe range
·
Sustain healthy HDL (good cholesterol) levels
·
Boost your memory and brainpower
·
Protect your blood vessels and nerves

I highly
recommend the product OraMd! This is an all natural product
that works to enhance your gum and mouth health. I have used
it for years and my dental hygienist is extremely pleased with my
dental health. In the last few years there has been no mention
of gum disease nor any scraping or hint of any displeasure from her!
Remember, there is a strong connection between poor oral health and
disease so having a bacteria free mouth is important.
(disclaimer: I am not paid, have not been asked or compensated to
talk about this product.)
4 Step Oral Hygiene Program Is as follows:
1. Brush twice a day, morning and evening using 2 to 5
drops of OraMD. OraMD replaces toothpaste, mouthwash and breath fresheners. Using other products in conjunction with OraMD
reduces it effectiveness. Most toothpaste contains potentially
harmful ingredients. The foaming ingredient in toothpaste is sodium
lauryl sulfate; this is a harsh chemical and is the main ingredient
in garage floor cleaners and engine degreasers. It can dry out the
mouth and bacteria flourishes in a dry mouth. To whiten, we suggest
to brush with baking soda up to twice a week; even though it is not
a harsh chemical you should rinse well and follow up with OraMD.
2. Floss every evening before brushing – more frequently
as needed.
3. Use OraMD as mouthwash twice a day, put 2 to 5 drops in
one ounce of water, swish and gargle. This is important because it
kills the bacteria in the entire mouth, including the back of the
tongue so there is no transference of bacteria from the tongue to
the gum line. The tongue is a breeding ground for bacteria and
bacteria are the main causes of gum problems. Most mouthwashes
contain alcohol and that will also dry out the mouth.
4. Mid morning, mid afternoon and as needed: put 2 to 5
drops on the tongue and coat the gum line and teeth to kill bacteria
and eliminate bad breath. Also, coat your gum line and teeth before
going to bed to keep the bacteria at bay while you sleep. OraMD
kills the 22 known harmful bacteria.
To get the results you expect, you must follow the above program.

Keep Your Hips Safe by
Eating Colored Vegetables
Eat red, yellow and orange
to avoid hip fracture is an article I found at
Bottom Line.
Who knew that by eating your vegetables that your bones could be
protected by the antioxidant pigments? You deserve to have the
entire story so here it is:
READ THE INFORMATION Sign up for their free
newsletter, too!
- People who consumed
the most total carotenoids from foods like
tomatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes and
cantaloupe experienced a significantly lower
risk of hip fractures.
- Those who consumed
the most lycopene -- a carotenoid commonly
found in tomatoes and watermelon -- likewise
had a lower rate of hip fractures and
non-vertebral fractures.
- Beta-carotene --
abundant in carrots, sweet potatoes,
mangoes, papayas, etc. -- had a small,
statistically insignificant protective
effect, but only against hip fractures.
- Alpha-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin
and lutein plus zeaxanthin did not
demonstrate any independent protective
effect.

Asparagus is Good
Medicine!
Asparagus is
good medicine because it contains nutrients, anti-oxidants and folic
acid that reduces inflammation in our bodies. Recently I
visited with two of my aunts in Oklahoma who are in their 90s.
Neither of them take medication and they are adamant that a diet
rich in organic fruits and vegetables have kept them healthy all of
their years.

Are your toes and feet extra dry?
Summer is the
time to show off colorful toes and fashionable sandals but if your
toes and feet are showing neglect as in dry, cracked and disgusting,
you need help right now.
According Rachel Parrish, co-owner of RJ's, a new spa/salon opening
January in Edmond, OK
there are 5 tips
to get your tootsies ready for summer:
§
Soak your feet in fresh lime juice. The citric acid
naturally exfoliates your skin, loosening dry-cracked heels and
calluses. (Cleopatra took milk baths to soften her skin. Milk
contains lactic acid which also dissolves dead skin cells.)
§
Dry your feet and use a pumice paddle to scrub
off dead skin. A dry foot and paddle allows more of the loose skin
to come off. Do Not use credo blades to cut off calluses, as
this hardens the skins surface and allows for a worse callus to
return.
§
Apply a scrub and work it generously to buff the
feet. Then rinse. You can make your own scrub by mixing almond
oil/sesame oil and sugar.
§
Slather your feet with lotion. Take a few minutes and
massage those achy feet. This helps to release stress and toxins.
For dry-cracked feet, try using a heavier lotion or foot butter with
socks while you sleep.
§
Get those pedicures! A licensed professional will
help you maintain quality foot care, with added pampering and polish
to make you shine inside and out!
The Perfect Virgin
Mojito
For those of you
who love Mojitos, here is the perfect summer cooler
that will have you licking your lips and it's without spirits ...not
that there is anything wrong with that but sometimes alcohol and sun
do not mix well. I found this refreshing recipe from
Food and Wine.com.
This delicious recipe serves one:
Ingredients
-
15 mint leaves
-
1 teaspoon raw sugar
-
1 ounce fresh lime juice
-
1/2 ounce
Simple Syrup
-
Ice
-
4 ounces chilled ginger ale
Directions
1.
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the mint, sugar, lime
juice and Simple Syrup. Add ice, shake well and pour into a highball
glass. Top with the ginger ale.
New Nail
Colors For Spring and Summer
THE GIRLS IN THE BEAUTY DEPARTMENT from
Glamour.com Daily Beauty blog asked Suzi
Weiss-Fischmann, the guru behind OPI colors what her favorite color
for the new season is and she chose:
Miami Beet.
Personally, I think it is
a very hot color that will compliment most everything you could
think to wear. This sexy shade is one that your toes will
love!
Zoya.com,
weighs in with no dangerous toxins (dibutyl phthalate, toluene,
formaldehyde). Zoya is available in a great range of fashion
colors and voted longest wearing nail polish by Women's Health
Magazine, as well as listed in Lucky Magazine's Green Guide.
This gorgeous lacquer is
Moxie.
And, from
Jessica Nails you might want to head in a totally different
direction
insofar as color. Why not try Milky
Way, from her Dark Side of the Moon Collection, (a deep
sexy blue) at least on your toes? Jessica Custom Colours are
Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP free. Her colors are absolutely
stunning and you will certainly find something you like.
Fuller Lashes
without Drugs (update!)
Allergan treats hypotrichosis of the eyelashes (no growth) with
their new eyelash treatment Latisse that usually takes about 60 days
of eye drops to notice a difference in the thickness and length of
the lashes. What if there was a more simple way to stimulate
growth of your eyelashes without resorting to drugs, chemicals or
side effects? My optometrist suggests that if you have thinning or
even non-existent eye lashes that you can stimulate the growth of
new hair simply by washing your eye lids. The advice works because
I began washing my eye lashes and lids and in just weeks I noticed
that my eye lashes were indeed growing fuller. Now I know without a
doubt that my lashes are indeed longer and fuller and they grew
without spending a dime or changing my eye color (a side effect!).
Sun Exposure
Update
Doctors, Naturopaths and health care providers are rethinking their
previous stance on sun exposure. Recent research on Vitamin D
indicates that the natural way to get this cancer fighting vitamin
is through exposure to the sun – not overexposure but rather
enjoying ten minutes per day of casual sun exposure. This very
slight exposure can provide nearly the daily requirement to protect
our bodies.
This doesn't mean that you should forgo your wide brimmed hats and
sun glasses or toss your sunscreen into the waste bin. Sun can
indeed damage delicate skin so be super aware that ten minutes of
unprotected sun is just what the doctor ordered.
One health professional suggested that you apply your sunscreen when
you first go outside. The application of sunscreen takes about 20
minutes to protect your skin and only lasts about two hours.
Be mindful that re-application is necessary for your best protection
if you are outside for an extended period of time.
Flatten Your
Abs
Sitting at your desk many hours a day - yes, I'm very guilty of that
- can cause your abs to atrophy and then pooch out in a very
unflattering way. If you want to reshape your mid-section
while still sitting at your desk, here's how to do it:
First, sit tall
in your chair. As you slowly exhale, contract (suck in) your abdomen
and hold the contraction for 10 - 15 seconds. Keep your abs
contracted, slowly continue exhaling and tightening your abs.
Count slowly.
Repeat this 10 -
15 times per day.
Is this easy or
what? The movement does indeed gently reshape your tummy and works
even faster when you stop ingesting "white" foods.
This exercise
can be performed everywhere whether walking, standing or sitting;
stay aware of your posture.
Four Fabulous
Holiday Fashion Tips
Try not to buy black
By this time in your life haven’t you bought
enough little black dresses?? Why not break out
of the rut and dare to buy something with some
color in it! That way, you won’t be just one
more dress in a sea of black, and you will look
festive and fun! We would love to challenge you
to just go out there and “try” not to buy black.
You will find it’s harder than you think!!
Don’t reveal too much skin
The biggest mistake we see mature woman make is
that they buy holiday outfits that are in style,
but that don’t look good on bodies that are
aging. That means the ever popular strapless
dresses are generally a No No! As we age, our
arms are one of the first places to start
sagging. Be aware of this and take action! Go
for a deeper neckline, but see if you can find a
dress or top that has wide straps, or that has
some fabric over the shoulders that covers up
the arms.
Think Legs
This season you can get overwhelmed with the
choices of dress lengths. What should you do? We
think you should be honest with yourself about
your legs! If your legs are still looking
great, don’t cover them up. Show them off! Don’t
hide under long skirts that make you feel
matronly. However, if your legs are not your
best feature, just skip the dress and go for a
wonderful pant suit. You can still look festive
and hip in a pant suit if you look for a fabric
that is elegant and shiny. Be sure to wear the
right shoes and accessorize it!
Invest in a Shaper
If you choose a dress made of clingy fabric or
that is body hugging GREAT! However, make sure
you keep the bulges to a minimum! There are so
many brands of shape wear out there, you will be
thrilled with the choices and instant smoothing
results! Most boutiques carry the ever popular
Spanx line, but there are many more out there
too, like
Cass and Co,
Sassybax and
Slimpressions.

Topical Vitamin
C Stops Basal Cell Carcinoma
If you've been diagnosed with
Basal Cell Carcinoma chances are your doc is going to be thrilled to
help you get rid of those pesky, red, raised bumps with a healthy
dose of good old Vitamin C. Taking Vitamin C internally is
essential for building healthy teeth and gums, it builds resistance
to infection and decreases the risk of cancer by 75%. Topically,
Vitamin C crystals mixed with a little water and applied three times

transitioned into documentary film in the last few years
after a 25-year career as a psychotherapist. She created the
idea for “The Beauty of Aging” out of a desire to find
inspiring models of aging for herself and other women.
"Greedy for Life" introduces Shirley and Lavada, two women
over 80 who share proof it's not age but attitude that
counts.

The Coffee
Facial
Coffee Facial –
Susan Lark,
MD has an interesting newsletter and she
suggests that coffee grounds can enhance your face and body. She
says it whisks toxins out of your skin, battles acne and other
blemishes, softens skin, exfoliates and more. The coffee oils
moisturize your skin and she says that hundreds of coffee's antioxidants can
protect skin against fine lines and wrinkles. Oh my goodness!
Yes, it's a little messy but once you try it a
few times, you'll get the hang of it. Keep it on five minutes. Rinse off in the shower
and then follow with your moisturizer. One note:
Starbucks Coffee will gladly allow you to have their grounds slated
for use in the garden so stop by and ask for a small amount of used
coffee grounds and try coffee grounds on your face and body.
Want Fuller
Lashes?
Fuller lashes are possible when you learn that
washing your eyelids and eyelashes will stop bacteria, inflammation,
staph and even more that causes eyelashes to thin. My optometrist
told me that washing your eyelids with soap, massaging the lids and
lashes for ten seconds then rinsing them well will help your lashes
grow thicker and fuller.
Summer Makeup Tips
1. Use sun block/sunscreen every
day to protect your face, neck, chest and back of hands.
You do need daily sun to boost your Vitamin D levels but try to get
that in the early morning or late afternoon so that you're not at
risk for burning or damaging delicate skin. With just 10
minutes of direct sun you can pick up about 12,000 IUs of vitamin D.
2.
Go light for lips. Now that summer is here, put away those dark
lipsticks and choose light, subtle and sheer glosses. I love
ColoreScience lip glosses that taste like chocolate. Go to
www.colorescience.com or call
866-426-5673 for the nearest location that stocks these
fine products.
3.
Stay away from heavy foundations so that wrinkles are less
apparent. If you want the best look, try mineral makeup. Just make
certain you moisturize first, allow it to penetrate then begin the
mineral application using soft, gentle, circular motions.
4.
Use bronzers and blushes to add extra color and pizzazz. Find
flattering shades without sparkles for a natural looking effect.
5.
Choose a hat with a generous brim and add sunglasses so you're set
for a day in the outdoors.
6.
Manis and pedis will assure pretty hands and feet. Colorful, bright
toenails in trendy colors will make white slacks and skirts pop.
Timeless Beauty
A poem by Agustina Crespo
Beauty is timeless
and so we are told,
To turn back the
clock and avoid getting old,
We
must cut and scrape and inject our faces,
but these things
do harm for they leave their traces,
They
take our power, put our fates in the hands of so called
professionals,
Who seems quite in
command of telling us how we should deal with aging,
Showing
us photos of the war they are raging,
Another
soul reaching for the fountain of youth,
Searching
the mirror for the surgeon's proof,
I look at it all
and find it quite tragic,
For
all that is needed is to do Facial Magic®
How you can
stop dry skin
1)
Take cooler showers – not baths.
2)
Moisturize when skin is towel-damp
3)
Use moisture laden non-soap cleanser only on the groin and
underarms.
4) Stay
away from itchy clothing and dry air.
5)
Check your medical conditions and medications.
Love Your
Belly, Butt and Thighs!
Prevention
Magazine writer, Karen Asp, says that our abs, thighs and hips are
our biggest problem areas - no wonder, sitting as much as we do, I
think we can easily begin to "spread". Not a good thing.
She brings exercise info from Tracey Mallett, certified Pilates
instructor and creator of the Renew You Sleek and Lean DVD.
These exercises are very similar to
those taught through Jack LaLanne's President's First Lady's Health
Spa; they require very little time to execute and boy do they work
to strengthen lax muscles.
Flatter Abs
Using Denise Austin's Secrets!
Our
clothes always wear better when our abs are tighter. Agree?
Well, Denise Austin says flatter abs are about attitude and food and
you can do this without one single crunch!
Denise
will introduce you to the five flat belly foods via Prevention
Magazine; I must say that I'm not a proponent of using canola oil or
soybean oil but I really love grape seed, olive and sesame oils.
Go here to
read
Denise's advice
and to print the Pilates movements. Get yourself ready
for summer! Give it three weeks and let's see how you fare!
Will Eyelash Growth
Boosters Harm Your Vision?
Long, full
eyelashes whether fake or real, complete our look, especially for
evening. Recently, several of my aesthetician friends began
sporting longer lashes. The results were startling but then we
began to hear rumblings that the product they were using might be
suspect.
You can read the story for yourself.
5 Tips to Winterize Your
Skin
Old man
winter blusters and spews cold, dry air outside and over-heated
homes and offices offer dry, warm air. Just like the Santa Ana
winds that sap the moisture right out of the air, the very same
drying conditions can damage your skin.
#1
Watch your shower temperature. Too hot water is drying so
alternate with cooler water temps to stimulate your skin.
#2
Use sesame oil before you shower. Apply it liberally on your
limbs and torso allowing it to penetrate at least ten minutes before
showering.
#3
Sunblock protects and nourishes skin so use it daily before applying
foundation. Remember that the sun can damage your skin every
day.
#4
Stay hydrated with filtered water. Drink your quota daily!
#5
Wash your face before bedtime and moisturize your neck, chest, back
of neck, hands and face thoroughly. Harsh toners with alcohol
and irritating scrubs need to be avoided now.

Women Dying To
Look Beautiful
Another young, vibrant woman died during a
liposuction procedure in Toronto. How sad that this talented,
successful, single mother lost her life hoping to rid her tummy of a little
mound of fat.
It is most bizarre that her "surgeon" had
no specialties and no
hospital privileges. She, "the surgeon", was training in family
medicine but she is not
listed as an accredited family practitioner with the College of
Family Physicians of Canada.
The scenario of allowing untrained and unqualified
practitioners to call themselves cosmetic surgeons that actually
perform surgeries is repeated many times a day in many areas of the
world.
In
the US plastic surgeons must undergo licensing and adhere to strict
regulations, but there's little to stop general practitioners from
calling themselves cosmetic surgeons and performing such
procedures.
Family doctors, physicians, not trained in plastic
surgery are performing cosmetic procedures because injections that
plump and paralyze, liposuction, surgery and other procedures are
very, very lucrative to their bottom line. They are in it for the
money.
This is a growing public health risk and lax
standards permitted this to happen.
